Roman Period – 410 (AD)

The county of Staffordshire has several prominent Roman sites. Watling Street, the first major road built by the Romans following their invasion of Britain, runs past Lichfield, just south of Sandon. Nearby is the military town at Wall, known to the Romans as Letocetum, which was built at the vital intersection between Watling Street and Ryknield Street.

Evidence of other Roman activity has been found throughout the area, with defensive earthworks remaining from a second camp at Holly Wood in Sandon and a hoard of Roman coins found at Burston. However, little information remains of their activities in Sandon.
