The Earl of Harrowby, president of Sandon Village Club, paid tribute to one of its founder members on the 8th inst., when he presented Mr. J. Cadman with a chiming clock in recognition of his 15 years as club secretary. Viscount Sandon (vice-president) presided at the meeting at which the presentation was made.

Mr. P. Holford, Mr. Cadman’s successor as secretary, spoke of the fine work done by Mr. Cadman during the years he had held the office. Mr. B. Adams (chairman), spoke in support, and said he had always received the maximum co-operation from Mr. Cadman during the years they had worked together.

Making the presentation, Lord Harrowby said he realised how much the club owed to the work of Mr. Cadman, and he hoped their late secretary realised how much they all appreciated what he had done for the village of Sandon by performing his duties so conscientiously.

Replying, Mr. Cadman thanked the members of their kindness in presenting him with the timepiece. He recalled the early days of the club, just after the premises were built in 1904 by Lord Harrowby, and referred to his service as assistant secretary under the late Mr. Bentley, the first secretary of the club. Mr. Cadman expressed the belief that the work of the club had been a major asset to the village, and mentioned the many letters of appreciation he had received from visitors to the village who had used the club during their stay.
