BRITISH LEGION

At the monthly meeting the Treasurer reported that he had had an offer of prized for the best cropped cottage garden in the district covered by the branch, the gardens to be judged in August.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The members held their monthly meeting in the Parish Room, the President (the Countess of Harrowby, D.B.E.) presiding. Owing to transport difficulties the lecturer was unable to attend, and the President gave a talk on the war-time salvaging campaign. Miss Wright was responsible for the social half-hour and Mrs. Ward was the hostess.

LATE MR. W.J. MOXON

The funeral took place at Sandon churchyard on February 22, of Mr. William John Moxon, of Burston House, Burston, a member of a well-known North Staffordshire family. The deceased was born at Cannon House, Hanley, and spent his younger days in Hanley. He was chairman of directors of the Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Billposting Co. Ltd., a director of the Theatre Royal, Hanley and a director of Messrs. G. and J. Munro and Co. Ltd. The service at Sandon Church was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. J.D. Charlesworth), and Mr. Bridgeman was the organist. The mourners were Mrs. Moxon (widow), Mr. J.W. Moxon and Mr. J.F. Moxon (nephews), Mrs. J.E. Moxon (sister-in-law), and Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Holland (cousins). Among others attending were Mr. Arthur Birkett, Mr. P.E. Hughes, Mr. T.A. Grant, Mr. F. Bennett, Mr. A. Nixon, Mrs. Nixon, and many friends from Burston and Sandon.


Among the wreaths were those from the parishioners of Burston, directors, management, and staff Theatre Royal Hanley, directors G. and J. Munro CO. Ltd., proprietors and staff Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffs Billposting Co. Ltd.
