SANDON

Village Club.—The reputation the committee of the Village Club have established in providing excellent annual entertainments was fully maintained on the 21st inst., when a very enjoyable evening was spent by those present. The programme was opened with the singing of one Verse of the Belgian National Anthem by the refugees staying at Sandon Lodge. Miss Dorothy Webb, of Endon, delighted the audience with her contributions. “A Summer Night,” “The little Damozel,” and “I Know a Sea,” and as encores she sang Tosti’s “Good-bye” and “The Rosary.” Mons. Marshall has a nice tenor voice and his songs pleased his hearers very much. Mr. Percy Baistow paid a welcome return visit and had a cordial reception. His make-ups and humour suited the audience perfectly. He was encored for each item, his songs being “I’ve only come down for the day,” “I do s’like a s’nice s’mince s’pie,” The Curate,” and “I parted my hair in the middle.” Two laughable sketches, “A Very Lame Dog” and “Apartments to Let,” were capitally performed by Mesdames Scott, Simms, Coupland, Orwell, Stone, and Timms. At the close the Vicar (the Rev. V.E. Sauerlaender) proposed a vote of thanks to the performers.
