The wedding took place at All Saints’ Church, Sandon on Saturday, of Mr. A.E. Toney, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. H Toney, Argyle Avenue, Bollhall, Tamworth and Miss Vera Evelyn Askey, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Askey, the Estate Works, Sandon. Miss Pamela Lloyd, cousin of the bride, was the bridesmaid. Mr. H.C. Toney, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

The bride wore a suit of mist blue, with navy blue accessories, a necklace of pearls (the gift of the bridegroom) and a spray of pink carnations and white heather, the gift of the Countess of Harrowby. She carried an ivory Prayer Book. The bridesmaid had a dress of dusky pink, with navy blue accessories and a drop pendant, the gift of the Countess of Harrowby. The Rev. W.H. Dodd (vicar of Weston) officiated, and Mr. Bridgeman was the organist.

The Earl and Countess of Harrowby and Viscount and Lady Sandon were amongst those present at the ceremony. As the happy couple left the church the bride was presented with silver horse-shoes by Miss Christine West (niece of the bridegroom), and Miss Joan-Brown (godchild of the bride). Among the many presents were gifts from the Earl and Countess of Harrowby, the bride’s colleagues at the English Electric Works, the brethren of Sir Walter Congreve Lodge, R.A.O.B., and other friends in Sandon, Gayton, and Marston.
