SANDON FUNERAL of Farm Tragedy Victim

The funeral of Mr. Derek Haycock, 19-years-old farm worker, of Smallrise, Sandon, took place at Sandon Church on Tuesday.

As previously reported in the Sentinel, Mr. Haycock died in tragic circumstances while cutting hay on the farm of his employer, Mr. D. Hall, of Shore Wood, Sandon. He had taken a gun out with him with which to shoot rabbits, and the gun accidentally went off while he was mowing.

The funeral was conducted by the Vicar of Sandon (the Rev. W.Basil Buckland), with Mr. E.R. Bridgeman at the organ.

The principal mourers were Mr. and Mrs. E. Haycock (parents), Mr. J.M. Haycock and Mr. Leslie Haycock (brothers), Mr. and Mrs. C. Capewell, Mr. and Mrs. Sergeant, (brothers-in-law and sisters) Mr. Matthew Haycock (grandfather), Mrs. and Mrs. Haycock, (uncle and aunt), and Mr. and Mrs. Beebe.

Others present included Mr. J. Phillips, Mr. Martin, Mr. K. Bostock, Mr. and Mrs. Furnival, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Orwell, Miss S. Fowler, Miss J. Mincher, Miss Hilda Challinor, Mr. John Hulme, Mr. L. Robson, Mr. K. Renshaw, Mr. Raymond Hulme, Mr. W.A. Shepheard and Mrs. Hall.

Bearers were Mr. Raymond Falmer, Mr. Dennis Palmer, Mr. William Palmer, Mr. William Furnival, Mr. W. Kenderdine and Mr. D. Hall.

Arrangements for the funeral were made by Messrs. H. Fairbanks, of Oulton, Stone.
