G.F.S. FESTIVAL.—The annual festival of the Stone branch of the Girls’ Friendly Society was held on Saturday at Sandon, whither the associates and members, to the number of about 140, proceeded by train accompanied by the Stone Volunteer Band, under Band-Sergt. A. Wood. Among the company were the Revds. J.R. Line and K. Hanson, and branch secretary, Mrs. W.C. Stubbs. On arrival at Sandon Station, the company formed into procession and, headed by the band, marched to Sandon Church, where a short service was held, an address being given by the Rev. Guy Warne, vicar of Sandon. A collection was taken for the G.F.S. Sick Fund. Tea was provided at the Dog and Doublet, and a move afterwards was made to the Park, which was kindly thrown open to the branch by the Earl of Harrowby, and games and dancing were indulged in till a quarter to nine, when the return was made by train. The usual prizes and bonuses for faithful services were distributed by Mrs. Line.
