Earl heads mourners at funeral
The Earl of Harrowby headed a large congregation of mourners at the funeral, yesterday, of Mr. Douglas Foster, aged 50, of Purl Cottage, Sandon, who died while playing golf.
Wellknown in the Sandon area, Mr. Foster spent his working life at Dormans of Stafford, and was a member of the Kingston Hill Golf Club and of Sandon Church.
The Rev. G.F. Greenup conducted the service at Sandon Church.
Organisations and firms represented included Dormans of Stafford, Kingstons Hill Golf Club, Little Stoke Cricket Club, Lotus Ltd., Sandon Mothers’ Union and the Lord Ingestre Lodge of Oddfellows.
Family mourners were: Mrs. M. Foster, widow; Mrs. M.A. Hawley, mother-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. J. Hawkins, Mrs. F. Downing, Mrs. F. Smith, aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. K. Whitehurst, Mr. J. Hawkins, Mr. A. Kendrick, Mr. and Mrs. F. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith, cousins.
