Sandon Bridesmaids in red trousers

All Saints’ Church, Sandon, was the venue for the ceremony when a Sandon bride and her Oswestry bridegroom were married on Saturday by the Rev. G.F. Greenup (Vicar).

The bride and bridegroom were Miss Helen Mary Sargent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.W. Sargent, of Smallrise, Sandon, and Mr. Terence W.F. Williams, son of Mrs. M.G. Williams, of St. Martin’s, Oswestry.

Miss Sargent, who is following a nursing career at Oswestry, Orthopaedic Hospital, wore a self-made full-length Milan satin dress with a brocade bodice and sleeves. A single rose ehad-dress secured her veil, and she held a bouquet of red roses.

Bridesmaids were Miss Janet Sargent (bride’s sister) and Miss Hilary Bacon, who wore red trousers, white blouses and red and white ponchos.

Mr. Mervyn Davies was the best man and the groomsmen were Messrs. Richard and Stuart Sargent.

The bride and bridegroom, who are to live at Hindford Whittington, Oswestry, held a reception at the Dog and Doublet Hotel, Sandon.

SANDON MOTHERS’ UNION

Sandon branch of the Mothers’ Union met for the January meeting in the Parish Room. After opening prayers the Rev. H. Myers, of St. Bertelin’s, Stafford, spoke on being “conscious of the presence of God” and gave a recent experience of his own. Mrs. Powner was responsible for the light refreshments.—Earlier in the month Mothers’ Union members took their children, together with the scholars of the Sunday School and several parents to see the show at the Queen’s Hall, Burslem. Approximately 20 children and the Vicar of Sandon (the Rev. G.F. Greenup) were with the party.

NURSE RETIRES.

Nurse Ellwood, of Lichfield-road, Sandon, has retired from her duties as midwife and District Nurse. She took up this work in 1959 after a period in hospital and was appointed to Hixon and Great Haywood and in 1960 was given Sandon, Burston and Salt, in addition. Nurse Wlwood [sic] has always been held in high esteem and has been the recipient of many personal acknowledgements. In addition, her nursing colleagues gave her an electric coffee percolator, presented to her by Miss Chadwick (supervisor for the nurses in the district).
