THE DEATH took place at Bournemouth on the 18th inst. Of Susan Maria Dowager Countess of Harrowby, in her 75th year. She was the daughter of the late Villiers Dent, Esq. of Barton Court, Lymington, and married in 1859 the 4th Earl, who died in the year of his succession, 1900. His brother, the third Earl, who had a distinguished political career, married in 1861 Lady Mary Frances Cecil, daughter of the second Marquis of Exeter. The present peer (eldest son of the 4th Earl) is a partner in the great banking firm of Coutts and Co., and sat as M.P. for Gravesend 1898-1900. He married in 1887 the Hon. Mabel Smith, youngest daughter of the late Right Hon. William Henry Smith, M.P. The funeral of the Countess took place at Sandon Church, near Stafford, on Thursday. The body was brought by train from Bournemouth, and the service was conducted by the Rev. V.E. Sauerlaender, vicar, and the Rev. L. Leader Cooper, domestic chaplain. Among the mourners were the Earl and Countess of Harrowby, the Hon. Edward and Lady Maud Ryder, the Hon. Archibald Ryder, Captain the Hon. And Mrs. Robert Ryder, Mr. Colin and Lady Angela Campbell, Viscount Sandon, Mr. Henry Ryder, and Mr. Donald Campbell.
