MR. J.D. FOSTER and MISS M.J.M. HAWLEY

Mr. John Douglas Foster, a well-known cricketer, who plays for Sandon and Little Stoke, was married to Miss Mavis Joan Mary Hawley, of Burston, at Sandon Church, on March 25. Mr. Foster is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Foster, of Ivy Cottage, Sandon, and the bride is the only daughter of Mrs. Hawley, of “The Pool”, Buston. Both are keen members of Sandon parish church, and the bride sings in the choir both at Sandon and Burston.

Given away by her uncle, Mr. Jack Hawkins, of Burston, the bride wore a gown of white lace over taffeta, the bodice of which was embroidered with silver sequins. Her full length veil was appliqued with roses, and was surmounted by a head-dress of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of cream tea roses and trailing fern. Her pearl necklace was the gift of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Shelah Ann Hawkins (cousin) was bridesmaid, and she wore a ballerina length dress of lemon lace over taffeta with elbow length mittens. Her head-dress was of lemon velvet flowers, and she carried a bouquet of yellow tulips and white narcissi with trailing fern. Her diamante necklace was the gift of the bridegroom.

The choral service was conducted by the Rev. W.B. Buckland, and the duties of best man were performed by Mr. W.H.L. Day, last year’s captain of Sandon C.C.

The reception for the 40 guests was at the Dog and Doublet Hotel, Sandon, and the honeymoon is being spent at St. Anne’s. Amongst presents received were those from Sandon and Little Stoke Cricket Clubs, Burston and Sandon church choirs, staff of Lotus Ltd (Stone) and foundry and pattern shop, Dormans, Stafford.
