Death of Col. Arthur Jerrett

We regret to record the death of Colonel Arthur Jerrett, of Sandon, a prominent member of the British Legion and for many years a director and later managing director of the former Guy Motors Ltrd., of Wolverhampton.

Colonel Jerrett, who was 77, died at his home, Grove Farm House, Sandon, last Wednesday.

He joined the board of Guy Motors in 1945, became sales director in 1950 and vice-chairman in 1954. From 1957 until retirement in 1959 he was the firm’s managing director.

Colonel Jerrett’s connection with the road transport industry went back to the 1920’s when he was elected to the council for the former Commercial Road Users Association later becoming President of the Association.

He had the unusual distinction of being Chairman of two road transport organisations, the T.R.T.A. which looks after the interests of “C” licence holders, and of the National Road Transport Federation in the same year.

During the last war he inaugurated a scheme for mobile feeding units for areas badly hit by air raids. He was also responsible for a scheme for the dispersal of gold from the Bank of England in the event of any grave emergency.

The funeral service was held at Sandon Church on Monday, conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. G.F. Greenup. It was followed by cremation at Stafford Crematorium.
