“HELEN’S TOMB”: BURTON C.T.C. CLEAR UP A MYSTERY
Sunday’s run of Burton section of the Cyclists’ Touring Club was to Helen’s Tomb, the whereabouts of which as a mystery to most of those present.
Leaving the town at ten o’clock, the Club rode through Rangemore, Newborough, Abbots Bromley, and Stowe, to reach Weston-on-Trent in good time for lunch.
Lunch over, they went to Helen’s Tomb, which proved to be merely a large and uninteresting clump of fir trees in Sandon Park.
Sandon Church, close by, however, was well worth a visit, and some time was spent there.
Making a detour through the lanes to avoid Stafford, the Club passed through Marston and Great Bridgeford to Gnosall, and thence to Lindor Farm at Broadhill for tea.
The 35-mile run home, through Stafford and Rugeley, was covered in good time, and home was reached at 9.30pm.
Next weekend’s runs are:—Saturday Wolsey Bridge (Leicester Line Bridge 2.15pm.; tea, Milford), Sunday, King Dick’s Well (Swan Hotel 10 a.m.; tea, Sibson).
