SANDON

Estate Worker Retires.—Mr. Arthur Hine, School Lane, Sandon, who followed his father and grandfather in employment on the Sandon Estate, has retired after 35 years’ service. On the day of his retirement, at the invitation of the Earl and Countess of Harrowby, Mr. and Mrs. Hine visited the Hall, where they received an electric table lamp from Lord Harrowby, who also extended to them his best wishes. Mr. Hine, who is 67, served in the FRA in the First World War. He was clerk sexton at Sandon Church for 26 years, and has been a member of the Harrowby Lodge of Oddfellows for 48 years. He has occupied the chair three times, and is a member of the Management Committee. Mr. Hine’s son, Mr. Fred Hine, is employed on the Sandon Estate.

Whist Drive.—Prizewinners at the annual fur and feather whist drive held in aid of the Children’s Christmas party fund were: Messrs. E. Rollitt, J. Mills, T. Haynes, J.E. Moseley, G. Moore, H. Badger, Mr. G. Merricks and S. Hodson; Mrs. M.G. Green, Mrs. E. Rollitt, Mrs. W.C. Key, Mrs. G Merricks, Mrs. F. G. Illidge, Mrs. H. Collins, Mrs. M. Alderson and Mrs. Moore. Competitions were won by Mrs. Worral and Mr. J. Merricks, Mr. P. Holford was M.C.
