Pupils of Sandon Village School who presented a Nativity Play. The presentation, before a large audience, was under the direction of Miss. E. Watson (headmistress), assisted by the Vicar (the Rev. W.B. Buckland) and Mr. J. Phillips. A choral accompaniment was effectively staged, and the Crib scene was particularly pleasing. The Earl and Countess of Harrowby were unable to be present owing to a previous engagement, but Lady Harrowby attended the final dress rehearsal. Scholars taking part were: Gwen Halfpenny (Mary), David Illidge (Joseph), J. Kent (innkeeper), G. Stubbs (ox), G. Booth (ass), R. Phillips, M. Middleton, J. Wheeldon, E. Halfpenny (shepherds), M. Powner, R. Bennett and M. Buckland (Kings), U. Whitehurst (Gabriel), R. Furber, M. Owen, S. Booth, M. Prince (angels), R. Kent and S. Hodson (crib angels), H. Leese and S. Betts (travellers), A. Mills, D. Mills, S. Middleton, J. Dodd and C. Dodd (children).
