SANDON

DEATH OF MR. C. BENTLEY

We regret to record the death of Mr. Colin Bentley, of Smallrise. The deceased was well known in the district and always of a cheerful disposition; he will be much missed. He was a member of the church choir for many years, and a sidesman. He was also a member of the Management Committee of the Earl of Harrowby Lodge of Oddfellows and president of the Juvenile branch. Much sympathy is extended to his widow and three children.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The monthly meeting was held in the Parish Room, the President (the Countess of Harrowby. D.B.E.) presiding. There being no demonstration, the evening was spent in competitions. etc. The monthly evening meetings were cancelled for the winter months but afternoon meetings for knitting will be arranged. Mrs. Myatt and Mrs. Holford were the hostesses.

ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH

Continuing his pilgrimage in the diocese, the Bishop of Lichfield visited Sandon Church on Sunday morning and preached to a good congregation, which included the Home Guard. The Vicar, (the Rev. J.D. Charlesworth), conducted the service, and Mrs. Blakeman was the organist. The collection, which amounted to £6 8s. 11d., was given to the Bishop’s Appeal Fund.
