SANDON

Earl Haig’s Remembrance Fund.—The total receipts from Sandon and the surrounding district for Earl Haig’s Remembrance Fund amount to £23 14s. 5d. The amount from each village is as follows: Sandon £5 15s. 11d., Gayton £2 6s. 9d., Salt (with Hopton and Sandon Bank) £4 10s. 5d., Milwich £1 8s. 10d., Burston £1 11s., Enson 9s. Other amounts: Stowe School £3 02. 4d., and All Saints’ Church, Sandon £4 12s.

Whist Drive and Dance.—A whist drive and dance were held on Wednesday evening in the Village Club in aid of the local hospitals. There was a large attendance. Mr. D. Phillips acted as M.C. for the whist and Mr. G. Fenton for the dance. The premier prize (a ham) was won by Mrs. F. Hodson.

Other prize-winners were: Ladies: 1. Mrs. Potts: 2. Miss D. Sims: 3. Mrs. J.T. Johnson. Gentlemen: 1. Mr. A. Hodson: 2. Mr G. Snow: 3. Mr. E. Pilsbury. The prizes were presented by Mrs. R.V. Lloyd-Williams, who thanked all who had contributed to make the evening a success. The ladies’ third prize, a couple of cockerels, were offered up for auction, and realised £1 5s. for the fund. A draw for a cake, which was afterwards sold and re-sold, brought in over £5. And Mr. G. Kerr’s pig competition realised 14s. 6d. The total of £24 14s. was divided by the committee between the Stafford and North Stafford Infirmaries, and it was agreed that a hospital effort be made yearly and that a public meeting be held during the first week of October, when officials and committee would be appointed. Mr. D. Philips and Mr. G. Fenton and all the lady helpers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
