November fair at Sandon

In Sandon Village Club on Saturday a highly successful November Fair was held on behalf of All Saints’ Church.

The Countess of Harrowby was welcomed by the Vicar (the Rev. G.F. Greenup) and spoke of the necessity of continually raising funds for the repair and maintenance of the church. She then declared the fair open, and received a presentation from little Helen Sargent, rewarding her with a kiss.

The hall had a festive air in keeping with the occasion and the attendance was excellent.

Stallholders and othe helpers were:—Fancy stall, Mesdames Downing and Holford. Miscellaneous, Miss Bentley. Cake stall, Mrs. F. Middleton and Miss H. Myatt. Young People’s stall, Misses S. Middleton and R. Kent. Second-hand stall, Mesdames Foster, Hawley and Powner and Miss May Wright. China stall, Mesdames Bocking, Berrisford, Grindley and Greenup. Produce stall, Mesdames Kent, Sargent and Shepherd. Garden stall, Miss S. Jerrett, Mrs. J. Wright, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Donaldson. Refreshments, Mesdames Rollitt, Hine, Dewberry and Furber and Miss Mabel Robson. Bran Tub, Miss Pat Phillips. Skittles, Messrs. J. Furber and P. Warhurst. Treasurer, Mr. R.W. Lindop. Doorkeepers, Messrs. T. Foster and R. Dewberry.

Competition winnders were basket of fruit, Mr. R.W. Lindop (given back for re-auction; fowl, Miss K. Bentley; cushion, Mrs. Hawley; Christmas fare in box, Miss B. Myatt (given back for re-auction); home-made wine, Miss May Wright; biscuits, Mrs. F. Middlton; embroidered cloth, Mrs. R. Dewberry; skittle prize, Mr. J. Stanier.
