SANDON

Sandon Church Gifts.—The Chalice and paten dedicated by the Rural Dean of Stafford (Preb. T.F. Royds) at Sandon Church on the 21st ult, were given by the Rev. William St. George Coldwell, of Witham-on-the-Hill, Lincs., in memory of his father, the Rev. W. E. Coldwell, and his grandfather, the Rev. W.E. Coldwell, both of whom were former vicars of Sandon. In the report of the dedication service appearing in our last issue, it was erroneously stated that the chalice and paten were the gifts of Col. W.A.G. Coldwell, son of the actual donor. Made by Messrs. Osborne, London, they are after the pattern of an ancient chalice and paten which were found at the time of the dissolution of the monastery at St. Alban’s Abbey (1527), and afterwards placed in the custody of Trinity College, Oxford, where they remain.
